The Ten Most Important Gosho

Zenxhu this Gosho Nichiren Daishonin wrote, “I wanted to record the wonder I had experienced, in case I should be beheaded. We can summarize its message as follows: Please specify keywords to search for: If the Buddha, having awakened to the Dharma, or Law of life, had not endeavored to teach it to others, his enlightenment would have been incomplete.


Written at Mount Minobu and dated Zenshy 21,this treatise was written in appreciation for the Daishonin’s late teacher Dozen-ho. Written at Mount Minobu in September and sent to Joken-bo at Seicho-ji temple, this Gosho refutes the objects of worship of the various sects, particularly those of the Shingon sect.

The recipient is unknown. Submitted in remonstration to the retired regent, Hojo Tokiyori, on July 16,this Gosho is written in the form of a dialogue between a guest and his host. In this sense, I believe it is extremely important to understand such Buddhist concepts and consider them in terms of their modern significance.

It asserts that during this time period shakubukuleading another to the correct Buddhist teaching by refuting his attachment to heretical views, is preferable to shoju gradually leading another to the true teaching without refuting his misconceptions.

From the point of view of Buddhist doctrine, it discusses the vital importance of repaying debts of gratitude, especially to a teacher, and concludes that the way to repay such obligations fully is to embrace and propagate the Mystic Law. It predicts that two further disasters, internal strife and foreign invasion, would occur if the country continues its support of mistaken teachings and heretical priests.

This writing has not yet been translated into English. Buddhism enables everyone to achieve inner peace, which is inseparable from world peace, through a transformation of life, that most fundamental of changes that occurs through Buddhist practice.


Buddhism aims to shed light on and thoroughly examine the complex inner realm of the human being and thereby provide a broad and comprehensive overview of life itself. Dated Februarygoshi was written for all his followers and was entrusted to Shijo Kingo, a samurai and a disciple of the Daishonin. This in turn can provide a spiritual and philosophical basis zemshu dealing with such modern global issues as the protection of human rights, the preservation of the environment, and the attainment of world peace.

Presented in a form of fifteen questions and answers, it establishes the supremacy of the Lotus Sutra over the provisional teachings. Designed by Will Kallander. I think that useful words are a wonder to all of us, and perhaps the exact historical details are less valuable to us than the actual words.

Global peace will, therefore, be realized if this principle and its practical application are shared among people. Mind, however, is not limited to mere process of thought.

It teaches the principle of juji soku kanjin, which means that embracing the Gohonzon is in itself enlightenment. The Lotus Sutra, however, sets forth principles that resolve and integrate those apparent contradictions.
